About Genting Poker

Genting Poker is relatively new to the world of online poker. It was formed in 2008, the same year Genting entered the online gambling world with the launch of Genting Casino, Circus Poker and Circus Casino.

The Genting Poker website has all the info needed for you to get started, but it also includes a few unique extras. You can watch a live feed from at least six of Genting’s UK casinos, including Birmingham, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Sheffield. It also has a highlights package that covers all of its own events, as well as other tournaments held across the UK. This package includes blogs, videos, interviews and more. The Genting Poker website has a schedule/results page, where, as well as a selection of online results, you can view information on all previous and upcoming events taking place in its casinos.

Smooth and Sleek Interface

Genting Poker uses iPoker’s Playtech software. It boasts the third-largest number of users for an online site, so you will be sure to find a game, day or night. The main lobby is sleek in appearance and has a number of tabs down the left-hand side to make it easier to locate your game of choice, whether it be cash, sit and goes (SNGs) or multi-table tournaments (MTTs). Everything is just a click away, so even if you’re a novice to online poker, you won’t get lost.

The Genting Poker website and software is designed using its trademark red and black colour scheme. It’s easy on the eye and, once at the tables, the red felt with the Genting Poker logo, combined with the dark surrounding, makes your cards, chips and chip counts stand out. You can choose from 75 custom avatars and each avatar can be turned off to give you a clean table. With iPoker you can open 16 tables, which fit with very little overlap onto all decent 16.7” laptop screens – so if multi-tabling is your thing, Genting Poker is a good port of call.

Run-of-the-mill Loyalty Scheme

As mentioned above, the more you play, the higher reward level (VIP) you attain and the higher the multiplier you receive. So the more you play, the more points you get, but what can you do with these points?

Well, you can cash them in for £1 for every 25 points you bank. If you can reach Level 9 and earn the 8,000 required points, then you can cash these out and make £320. If you don’t want to receive cash, you have the option to redeem your points in any Genting UK casino, where you can use the rewards to enter live tournaments, play at the gaming tables, use the slots or buy food and drink in the casino’s restaurant and bar.

And you’ll get a better rate redeeming loyalty points in the casinos rather than withdrawing them via the client. For example, to redeem £20 through the client, you’ll need to cash in 500 points. However, this same £20 would only cost you 340 points in a Genting casino.

Genting Exclusive Games

Genting Poker has a lot of satellite links for its live games. It offers smaller satellites into its daily/weekly tournaments, many of which usually have decent overlays. From time to time, it will run games with bounties on the site’s sponsored professionals, and this has previously included The Hendon Mob team of Ram Vaswani, Joe Beevers, Ross Boatman and Barney Boatman.

It has exclusive casino freerolls, worth £2,000, which break down as follows:

US$400 weekly freeroll for players that stake £50 or more in Genting Poker Side Games. US$100 weekly freeroll for players that stake £5 or more in Genting Poker Side Games. Banking Options for Everyone

Genting Poker offers you most options when depositing onto its site. You can use credit/debit cards, Skrill, Neteller, bank transfers, Envoy, Ukash, ClickandBuy and Click2Pay. You can also lodge money into your account in any of Genting’s UK casinos. Its minimum deposits range from £2/€2 for Neteller, Skrill and Ukash to €10 for credit/debit cards and bank transfers. All of these deposits are free and instantly credited to your account, except for bank transfers that can take two to five days to clear.

The only issue with withdrawing is that you cannot withdraw to a method that has not been used to deposit, so if you’re planning to use Neteller and Skrill for withdrawal purposes, be sure to use both methods to lodge money. For example, say you lodge €100 using a credit card and €50 using Skrill. You spin up your account to €500 and you want to withdraw to Skrill. You’ll first need to withdraw €100 to your credit card to close off that loop. This is called the closed-loop policy and it’s something you might need to be wary of.

Withdrawals to debit/credit cards take two to five working days, while withdrawals to e-wallets are credited instantly once they are processed. Genting Poker also offers bank transfers as a way of withdrawing, which take three to five working days. There is no charge on cash-outs and the minimum amount that can be withdrawn is £10/€10.

Site Safety/Security/Reputation in Forums

Genting Poker’s numerous security practices should ease any concerns. When you deposit by Visa, it uses Verified by Visa. Verified by Visa is an additional layer of security that helps protect legitimate cardholders from unauthorised use of their bank cards. Genting Poker also uses MasterCard SecureCode, which is pretty much the same thing.

The Genting Group was established in 1965 and has built its empire gradually as one of Asia’s leading multinationals. As such it is reputable, isn’t a flash in the pan and your money is safe as the company is bound to be around for many years to come. Combined with The Hendon Mob it has accounts and posts frequently on many of the main UK gambling forums.

But Genting Poker has also received negative reviews and player feedback. In June 2013, it ended its long-time promotional deal with The Hendon Mob community leaving a lot of players out of pocket as the company rendered its promotional dollars worthless. This led to quite a bit of unrest.

Solid Support but Needs Clearer Bonus Terms

Genting Poker support is available 24/7, all year round (excluding Christmas Day), with live chat open 24 hours a day. You can also contact Genting Poker by email, or, to save your phone credit, you could request a callback and a company representative will contact you immediately, with Genting Poker picking up the bill. Not all support personnel I spoke with were able to help me with the queries I had, but they were all very courteous and went about their work very professionally.

Due to the confusing points system listed on the Genting website, it’s very hard to work out the bonus clearance rate. After speaking to a member of the live chat staff, he told me that he did not know the information, that it wasn’t published on the website and that he didn’t have access to the data. For such a large, professionally managed company, it’s very disappointing that this side of its business is run in such a fashion. This sticking point is compounded by the fact that all the other iPoker skins have data clearly published on their websites.

The Genting Live Poker Series

The company launched an exciting new tour in 2012, the Genting Poker Series. The tour had seven legs, including one online leg, stopped at six casinos nationwide and had almost £1m in guaranteed prizes. It offered great structures with an affordable £430 buy-in and culminated in the £1,600 main event entry in London. In total, over the six live legs, 2,550 people created a total prize-pool of over £1.2m, making the series a great success. That success continued into 2013. The opening six events attracted over 2,600 players and created a chest of almost £1.1m.

Verdict

Genting Poker is a good choice if money security is a primary factor in deciding where to ply your online trade. With so many methods to deposit and withdraw, it’s a good option for the casual player as well as the full-time professional. With the annual Genting Poker Series having over half a dozen live and online legs, and with numerous other live events held throughout the UK, the chance to qualify for as little as £5 means it’s worth signing up.

The interface’s colour scheme is spot on, and, as with all iPoker skins using the Playtech software, it’s quick, reliable and easy to navigate. If bumping heads with some of the game’s top pros floats your boat, then there are not a lot of sites around on which you can combine this with playing tournaments for only £10. And there is always the chance you could win this entry fee ten times over in bounty tournaments by eliminating one of the big-name players.

Genting Poker is a significant concern and is backed by one of the world’s largest gaming companies. While it may not be as big a name as William Hill, it is every bit as good. The company is an A+ choice for iPokerSkin.
