About Poker770

Founded in 2001, Poker770 is owned and operated by Mandarin Gaming and is based and licensed in Curaçao, Dutch Antilles. It attracts a huge number of French and German players and has big European appeal having sponsored many pros, such as Bracelet winner Vanessa Hellebuyck, WPT Bucharest winner Guillaume Darcourt and EPT 3rd place finisher Tristan Clémençon.

Poker770 runs an annual series of poker tournaments known as the MegaPokerSeries. Each season has four stops in different European cities in countries such as Austria, Spain, Croatia and Montenegro. It hosts a series of events, with the Main Event being a 77,000 starting stack with a €770 buy-in. Season 1’s Main Event attracted a total of 1,708 players and awarded prize money of €967,000. Season 2 exceeded this with Season 3 expected to be even bigger.

A Favourite iPoker Design

Poker770 uses iPoker’s Playtech software and it has succeeded in giving its poker skin a very warm feeling. The site and software feature enticing colours, with a well-designed table layout. The poker client uses dark blue surrounded by grey for its tables, so everything stands out and looks the part. You can choose your favourite avatar, change to a four-colour deck and customise it in numerous ways to give the client a look and feel you are comfortable with.

Poker770 also offers an app called Coach770 that reads your cards as you play and calculates your chances of winning and losing a hand. It’s pretty much for beginners, despite what the website says, and you need to download and launch it before you launch the poker client.

Slightly Confusing Bonus Information

Poker770 offers a 200% first deposit bonus up to a maximum of US$2,000. However, the information on its website can be a little confusing. It states: “Whatever amount you deposit, we will triple it in bonuses of up to $2,000”. This means that if you deposit US$1,000, you will get a US$2,000 bonus – so effectively your US$1,000 plus the US$2,000 bonus will equate to a total of US$3,000. Be aware of this in case you wanted to deposit US$666 to gain the maximum bonus. Furthermore, you will only have 45 days to clear this bonus, which is pretty ridiculous as most sites give you at least 60 days.

Your bonus is released in US$2 amounts for every 150 points you earn. (Your first US$10 is released by earning a smaller amount but I’m ignoring that.) You will earn 20 points for every US$1 rake in cash games, and 22 points for every US$1 in tournament fees. Ignoring the first US$10 of the bonus, to release the next US$10 you will need to play US$340 worth of games and rake US$34 in tournament fees.

In addition to the first deposit bonus, you’ll receive a free US$20 if you deposit using the promo code FREE20 – US$10 upfront and the remainder after seven days. New players will also receive three entries into the site’s daily US$30 freeroll and two entries into its weekly US$500 freeroll.

Poker770 also has a ‘refer a friend’ bonus of US$75. There are, however, several hoops the person you refer needs to jump through before you receive any money.

In-depth VIP Loyalty Scheme

Poker770’s VIP programme has 10 levels with 20 points required to reach the second level, 2,500 points to reach Level 5 and 25,000 points to reach the site’s Elite level at the top of the pile. As you climb levels, you’ll be awarded with a boost between 25% and 600%. This augments the points earned during the month. For example, if you are on Bronze Level (4) and you earned 800 points, then you will be boosted by 150% so your points tally will be 2,000. You will also receive extra boost points depending on your level, how much you deposited during the month and how active you have been in the client. The lower the level, the bigger the boost you will receive. Lower-tier players are eligible for a maximum 35% boost, while only 7% is on offer for Elite players.

Strangely, you earn a different number of points depending on whether you are playing tournaments – including sit and goes (SnGs) – or playing cash. Tournaments earn you 22 points per US$1 in fees (that’s 27 per €1 and 32 per £1) and cash gets you 20 points per US$1 (25 per €1 and 30 per £1). It’s also calculated by contributed rake so you’ll need to see a flop before you are credited points.

As you earn points, you’ll be rewarded with freeroll tickets, access to the Poker770 shop and the chance to cash in your points. Lower-level players will have restricted freeroll and shop access and will pay over the odds for cash. For example, maximum cash value is US$25 for 16,000 points. The higher your VIP level, the more opportunities and offers available to you. Perhaps US$15,000 cash for 4.5m points or an opportunity to either buy a Samsung Galaxy, a new computer or other shop items.

The Poker770 website features a handy loyalty calculator. It will return your estimated potential VIP level based on your probable gameplay over the course of the month.

One of the Top Places for Exclusive Promotions

Poker770 is running an absurd amount of daily freerolls with small cash prizes and tickets for winners. There are US$10 and US$27.70 freerolls on the hour, every hour, with the latter awarding the top 10 finishers €2.20 tickets into the MegaPokerSeries satellite. There’s also a number of freeroll SnGs with a 10c prize-pool. These start as soon as they fill. If the site fill 13 of these an hour, that’s US$39 in freerolls every hour, or US$29,000 worth per month. These are running until April 30th 2014 alongside another 13 daily freeroll tournaments, offering between US$30 and US$200 worth of prizes. There is also a US$500 weekly freeroll, which means that, in total, there’s US$50,000 in freerolls up for grabs each month.

Besides the freerolls, the site runs a number of satellites into its MegaPokerSeries Main Event. Satellites start at €2.20 up to its €100 buy-in, with €25r with 2 x €1,500 packages guaranteed. And there’s plenty of opportunities to get into the €770 games for a fraction of the cost.

Depositing/Withdrawing Info

You can deposit onto Poker770 using 11 different methods. These include credit card, Neteller and Skrill, as well as some not-so-familiar methods such as Entropay and Neosurf. Minimum deposits for all of these are US$20, except for paysafecard and Ukash, which both allow you to deposit US$10.

You must withdraw using the same method with which you deposited, but they are all confirmed within 24 hours and your funds should be in your account by then. For your first withdrawal, you’ll need to supply proof of identification, such as a photo ID and utility bill, but this is standard practise in the poker industry.

Poker770: A Secure Site and Highly Regarded Brand

As soon as you log onto Poker770, your username and password are encrypted using Secure Socket Layer (SLL) technology. This protects your information as it crosses the Internet.

Poker770 also enforces rigorous password protocol, and it will deactivate your account after a set number of unsuccessful log-on attempts. If you need to contact support and change your password, Poker770’s customer service team will ask you set security questions, making it difficult for your account to be compromised. As well as human input, the site also uses automated computer programmes to identify and protect itself from collusion and unfair gameplay.

Poker770 has representatives on poker forums such as 2+2. I’m not going to say they are always quick to come back with a solution or answer to a query, but they are there nonetheless.

I have read stories of people being unable to cash out big amounts and delays with cash-outs after clearing bonuses. However, I can’t really hold this as a black mark against Poker770, as nowadays a company needs to be 100% sure that nothing unusual happened and no terms and conditions were breached.

A+ Support

Poker770 has pretty impressive support. It is available 24/7 through live chat on the client/website, email and telephone. Its staff seems knowledgeable and willing to help and I’ve yet to be left waiting for more than a minute when I’ve had to contact them.

Minor Grievances

Some information is not easy to find on the site and you only have 45 days to clear your first deposit bonus.

Verdict

There are not many negatives to Poker770. From previous experience, you do get bombarded a little with spam, or offers that don’t apply to you, but besides this, the chance to play in a big live event after qualifying through the numerous freerolls or low-buy satellites is appealing, as is its first deposit bonus. Releasing funds in US$2 amounts as opposed to US$5 helps the smaller players too. Poker770 is a good place to play. And, let’s be honest, there are a lot of players on Poker770 so why not join the droves!
